I believe in most cases positive only methods are all you need to teach a dog a new behavior or shape some of its basic behaviors, BUT, and of course this depends on the dog… I believe you can very successfully and in most cases faster change unwanted behaviors using a balanced type of training. That includes different tools that are properly used.

"Miley" the Chocolate Lab...

“Miley” the Chocolate Lab Puppy’s story:

Dear Tom

I am just giving you a first heads up on Miley.

I did take your advice on the crate door as you told me.  I’ve tried it and it actually WORKED

I had to sit on my knees for a few minutes cause it took about 10 to 12 times or so until Miley sat down and she exited out slowly.

She just got one of her squeegee toys and is enjoying some fun recess time out of the crate.  I put a few of her food kibbles in my hand palm closed as you also suggested.  She tried jumping on me and I did move forward to her and she backed up and got down.  I said for her to sit down and when she did I gave her 1 kibble.  I repeated this a few times there after and she sat down when I put a kibble in front of her then I gave her another kibble.

I can’t believe this worked absolutely incredible.

I’m greatly appreciative on m8what you have done for me today.
Thank U

🙏

Very Much Tom.

Sincerely,

Marv Schmidt
