How to get a dog used to Fireworks
It is 9:28pm July 4th in Broward County and all the surrounding cities Fireworks are going off. I know some dogs have a terrible time with Fireworks but in South Florida our dogs are exposed to many Fireworks throughout the year and very loud Summer thunder storms so they don’t get as scared as dogs who only experience Fireworks once a year…
If you want to save yourself and your dog some stress, let them be exposed to loud startling noises on a small scale and work up to whatever you can do. You can do this with a good subwoofer and recorded Fireworks or generate some of your own loud noises and don’t coddle them. Let them learn through the experience that they will be ok and it works best with little communication from you. Be careful that your interaction doesn’t accidentally encouragement their fear.
It also helps when you can tire your dog out before the Fireworks start.
