How do you know if a puppy is right for you?

This might sting a little bit, BUT if you’re working 8, 9, 10+ hours a day. Don’t get a puppy.

We recommend you get an older dog.

For example my sister and her husband are both teachers and they’re out of the house a LOT during the week.

So they don’t have a ton of time to put in to training a brand new puppy which will ensure that pup is raised with good manners and behavior.

That doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to have a dog in their lives.

In fact they have two dogs and neither one of them were puppies when they got them.

They, on my suggestion, rescued slightly older pups.

Then they made sure to crate train them as well as got them obedience training.

They did all the things that they needed to do to get them comfortable in their house.

AND they were able to leave them for longer periods of time, while they were at work.

They also made sure to have a dog walker come to their house, in the middle of the day, which is important.

So don’t go running out to get that brand new puppy.

Instead consider rescuing a dog or get an older puppy.

It’s wild, but one of the rescue groups I work with won’t “adopt out” a young puppy to people who work all day.

They’ll turn them down because they know that puppy is just going to be too much for that type of household.

That’s why we suggest you get a dog that’s eight months old or older depending on the dog.
